Can anyone tell me what the cost, if any, of duty would be if I order something from Magellans and have it shipped to Canada? I know that it's probably different for each order, but mabey there is a percentage or a fixed rate. The stuff I wanted to order is about US$75 + shipping.

OK, these are the rates to the US:
Order Amount Delivery Fee Value of goods Shipping $0.01 - $15.00 $4.95 $15.01 - $30.00 $5.95 $30.01 - $45.00 $6.95 $45.01 - $60.00 $7.95 $60.01 - $80.00 $8.95 $80.01 - $100.00 $9.95 $100.01 - $150.00 $10.95 $150.01 - $200.00 $11.95 $200.01 - $250.00 $12.95 $250.01 - $300.00 $13.95 Over $300.00 $14.95
For Canada, add $5 to that for regular shipping, and $15 if it's an oversized item. It also says "The recipient is responsible for all import taxes and duties. "

I can't provide a precise answer to your question, as the charges may vary slightly according to what type of items you are ordering. I have ordered from Magellans on several occasions, so have a few thoughts on the subject. On a $75.00 order, I suspect the Duty would be very minimal, and perhaps wouldn't be charged at all? Since the Free Trade Agreement was implemented, a lot of the "Duty" charges have been sharply reduced or eliminated. You will however pay 7% GST on the full value of the order, based on the converted amount to Canadian funds. There will also be a small delivery & processing charge (I think this was about $5.00?) if shipped by Canada Post. The charges will be slightly higher if shipped by a Courier (FedEx, Purolator, UPS). You will also pay a Brokerage Fee to the agency that processes the order at the border, especially where Couriers are involved. My orders usually seem to arrive via Peace Bridge Brokers (located in eastern Canada somewhere). In terms of Couriers, I have used FedEx several times, and find their service quite fast and reasonable. UPS Brokerage seems to be slow and expensive (in my experience). Loomis seems to be on the expensive side also. If you use Canada Post, I suspect your border charges might be under $15.00 Cdn. The Exchange rates on the U.S. Dollar are improving all the time, so the charges on your credit card shouldn't be too bad. The ordering process might sound rather costly and intimidating, but it's not really that bad. Give it a try, and you'll then have a good idea what charges are involved for future purchases. Incidentally, I have found Magellan's customer service to be excellent! I don't think you'll be disappointed in your dealings with them. Their prices seem to be mostly "MSR", but some of their own branded products seem to be quite reasonable. Hope this helps. Happy Travels!!!
