Budapest was very much the most exotic city I had ever been to, but the people are warm and open. I had dinner with a Hungarian girl, and we talked about the cost of living (her mon has an university degree and she earns $450 a month) the fall of Communism (had to believe this beautiful country was Communist just a dozen years ago) and men and sports (the same as the US, but there it is soccer). It really is a lot easier to talk to local people if you are by yourself and make an effort.
I wish I could have spent another day in Budapest (I should have, read train strikes, above). As it is, I only had a short time in Venice, but I think I took more pictures there than any city. You go out of the train station, and there it is! Venice, canals and gondolas.
I almost missed my flight to Amsterdam, getting an egg McMuffin. Damn McDonaldization of the world anyways! Love, Kathy
