i am planning a trip around Europe i have a few destinations in mind but how would you go about finding and reserving hostels once you have left your home and are already on your travels?
is it worth getting a hostel pass/card if so witch is the best and do they save you much money?

Easiest way is to find an internet café then book online through this site (see the link below). As for hostel cards, some people go for them but I've never bothered. Lots of hostels are independent nowadays and hostel cards can sometimes be a bad thing because they tie you to specific hostels.

In my brief Hostel experience, it's sometimes worthwhile to have a Hostel Membership (YHA or whatever) as there is usually a "preferred rate" for members. Also, members are sometimes given preference for a room over non-members if most of the rooms are booked-up.
Having a Hostel membership certainly wouldn't prevent you from staying at one of the Independent Hostels if you found a good one in a particular town.
