Hey! So I was checking out budget accommodation in Siena, Italy, and reviews I've read online of the Guidoriccio hostel (the only one in my lonely planet guide) are horrible! can anyone recommend a good b & b or budget hotel? only 1 of the budget hotels listed in my book i can find online... and that one is gonna cost us about 120$ CDN a night (for two). thanks! Jules

Yeah, we had the exact same problem. Actually we spent hours in book stores trying to find a cheapish place to stay there! We stayed at the Santuario Casa di S. Caterina, which has very, very simple rooms with shared bathrooms but with awesome views of the Duomo. It's run by nuns but they aren't strict - we weren't married and it was no problem for us to stay there. There might be an 11:30 curfew (I've heard this but there isn't a huge nightlife in Siena anyway so it doesn't matter) When we were there, they would only reserve by fax. Here are the details: Address Via Camporeggio 37 Phone 0577-44-177 Fax 0577/47-601 Other than that, check out these: Miniresidenze Ciompi reservations.bookhostels.com/guideforeurope.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=2696Double room with shared bathroom, $80.23 CND/night Residence Paradiso reservations.bookhostels.com/guideforeurope.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=2694Double room with shared bathroom, $92.58 CND/night It's really hard to find anything super cheap in Siena - if you get a double for $80 - $90 CND, that's pretty good. I am not a Siena expert, but I have read you could stay in San Gimignano or Perugia and daytrip to Siena, and you could certainly stay in Florence also and daytrip. Just a thought to expand your options. Also check venere.com .

if you're going to be in florence check out (edited)I'll admit that it is not as glamourous as some other hostels, but if you're on a budget it will definitely save you some cash. the prices are awesome and it's close to the center and the train station. if you're in a group there are also large private rooms. I booked through hostel world, but I had to pay a service charge

Best to not try to post reviews of a Florence hostel if your IP says you are IN Florence! ADS are not allowed here....sorry!

I stayed at the Hotel Piccolo Etruria....mentioned in LP and RS both. It is like 2 'blocks' from city center square....not advertised as a budget hotel...but in late January I arrived without calling or a reservation and paid 42 euros for a single, which was listed as minimum of 65 at the time. This in 2002 so prices may have changed greatly....but do not discount any where...if you are slightly 'off season' the book price is not remotely related to what you may find. And this was a great room, private bath, full cable TV, phone, whatever. Check around.....there are loads of hotels and the listed price is not actually the price sometimes.
