Paris, France
Hello all,
First, let me say, I was wrong. I always knew I would not like Paris, would find the people rude, sneering and anti-foreigners. Nothing could be further from what I found. It is indeed as promised a beautiful city, full of lovely parks and gardens, monuments to stir the eyes, a noisy clamoring of voices, traffic, birds and music and fabulous wide, serene almost boulevards and Plazas. And a metro like no other! The town is quite spread out, but the metro is cheap, fast, and can get you anywhere in no time.
It is just as frantic as London, but in a more civilized way. The Parisians are utterly polite, and while they may try to bowl you over on the sidewalk, unlike London they never fail to say 'pardon madam' while they are doing so!
Some of the very best music to be found in Paris I think is in and on the metros. Folks set up there and play to earn money, some ride the trains playing as you ride along.....and believe me, many of them are quite good indeed. I've heard guitars, accordians, violins, drums, banjos, xylophones among others, and quite a few singers as well. It's fun!
Who would ever guess there are still windmills in Paris? Or a vineyard! Right inside Paris proper too, not way out somewhere. There is and it was a delight to come upon them. I have taken a few walking tours, still my best ever thing for any city! The things you see and learn on these outings make the trip, at least for me.
I've done all the 'sights' that must be done of course. Yep, the Eiffel Tower is very tall indeed, the Arc de Triumph oh so impressive, as one would expect these things to be. But it is in just walking about that one finds the real heart of the town. There are hundreds of 'neighborhoods' that make up the city, each with it's own personality and flavor and loyalties. It's been great fun just wandering, and while my days are pretty full....there is a lot to see and do here....I allow time in every day to just meander for a while.
Notice this subject is 'highs'.....yep, I do have some thoughts on 'lows' but that will wait for the next note. Hope all are well. Looks like most of you have been in weather hell yourselves!
till next time,
ging
