Paris I stayed in Le Village in Montmarte. Basic breakfast was included. Rooms were clean and reasonable. very social atmosphere. met some cool people. i would recommend it.

Amsterdam - Flying Pig Downtown perfect location, great bar, house bong and located directly across the street from Blues Brothers coffee shop. The have the this coomon room in the basement called the Happy Room where you will meet some unforgettable people.
We were there in July and also stayed a couple of days at the Flying Pig Beach Hostel, which has shuttle service that runs twice a day to the Downtown and the Palace, def worth it if you want to party hard at night and chill on the beach and get baked for the day.

I stayed at City Backpackers in Stockholm and I'd stay there again! You had to take off your shoes when you came in, which was a bit different... but there was 24hr access, it was comfy, free internet for when you want to flick an email home, free sauna & tea/coffee. Plus, its just a few minute from Central Station so you don't have to lug your backpack (or whatever) very far!
Copenhagen I stayed with a friend so I can't help you, but book in advance... the youth hostels there fill up pretty quickly.
Amsterdam - Go for downtown
Prague - I stayed at the Clown & Bard. Like the Flying Pig, it's a bit of a party hostel but I found it half decent and the bar was a good social area.

Copenhagen used to be bad for hostels. However, in the last year a new hostel, Danhostel Copenhagen City, has opened, and it's a new facility in a nice, central area. That's what I would choose if visiting again. www.danhostel.dk

Need some help with hostels: 7. Barcelona??? i stayed at Kabul, in Barcelona. it seemed odd to name a hostel after the capitol of Afghanistan, i thought it might be owned by Afghanis? [this was in the 90's, not as many people were aware Kabul is Afghanistan's capitol]

Jules, when you were at Le Village, did you feel safe in that neighborhood when you got backto your hostel at night? I am considering that hostel, and a few others (two of the MIJE ones) for my October stay in Paris, and cannot decide if Montmarte is too far outside the city, and if it's in a safe enough area. I mean I don't need street lights every two feet or someone to hold my hand, but I just want to see in general what the neighborhood is like.
Thanks very much!!
