Thoughts on these lodging options

Hi,
First off...this is very long and full of info. so if you're in a hurry you may want to pass on this post. My husband and I are going on a month and a half long trip from May 29th through July 14th. We are trying to do it on a budget of course. I've compiled a list of lodging options for our very rough itinerary. Any thoughts on any of the places would be greatly appreciated. A little background on us: We are 25 and 28; we would like to stay in a our own room since we are a married couple. We are very laid back and enjoy a few drinks, but we aren't really into party type hostels. Thanks ahead of time for any comments!

well first of all, you seem to be trying to see a little too much. many places you are only there a day. and many more only 2. rome in particular, you definately need more than 2 days! not to mention all the time spent travelling between places! you might want to cut out a few cities and spend more time in some places or you're going to feel like you're living on a train. in terms of your places to stay i mostly stayed in hostels. however, in Tours, we did stay in Hotel du Manoir which if memory serves was 48 euros with a private bath. it was very nice. also rome i would recommend the beehive. it has mostly double rooms with shared bathrooms and is wonderful! very clean very friendly. i highly recommend it.

Hey Jules,
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I guess we should probably cut some places out so that we make sure to spend enough time in other places. As far as Rome...I heard that the Beehive is great, so I'll have to check the prices. We've been to Rome before...for our honeymoon...so I figured I could get by with 2 days. That will probably end up changing.

beckmann, first of all, welcome to the Board! A few more suggestions on lodgings for you (where did you get the info on the lodgings in your post?).

In the Cinque Terre you might have a look at www.torrettas.com also. I believe Kim (the owner of these Boards) stayed there, and it sure looks good on their website! There's also the "official" Hostel in Manarola -- their web site is at www.ostello5terre.com for further details. There is a lockout during the day.

If you were going to delete any stops, Milano would be my choice. I hope to be there in the fall and won't be stopping there except for the train station on my way to Lago di Como!

I concur with Jules that perhaps you might have too many stops for the time frame you will be travelling. IMO one should include some 3-4 days stops just to "recharge the batteries", etc.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the places in the Cinque Terre. We might cut out Milano, but I really want to see the duomo there. I compiled all of my info from www.hostelworld.com and www.venere.com.
