Most of the hostel reviews I've read for places in Munich say there's an age limit of 26. Anyone know of a good hostel or other option for someone a few years older than that?

aren't those age limits only on HI's? do private hostels also have an age limit?

The Euro Youth Hostel doesn't have an age limit.

Only the YHI hostels in Bavaria have age limits - it´s a requirement to get government subsidies.
Privately run hostels (such as Easy Palace, Euro Youth, Meininger, Wombats, etc don´t care about your age. They´re much better anyway.

"The Euro Youth Hotel doesn't have an age limit."
I've stayed there, and it was really clean, nice and fun. I liked it so much I bought a t-shirt. I would definitely go back.

Have you checked out Wombat's? I don't know the age regulations, but I sure can vouch for their greatness (Coming from a girl who got a free trip from them heheheh it's kind of korny, but hey, they're just great and so fun and cooperative!)

LOL, commie. Don't worry - the age limit is only for YHA hostels, and I read recently that if there is space available, they will take us over-26 people. But there are many non-YHA options you can choose instead. (Oops, I guess Santa Klaus said that above.)
I've found that in other cases, where governmental rules aren't an issue, is that if a hostel does have a purported age limit (often 35), they will waive it if you promise not to complain. I haven't been to one of these, but some party hostels apparently are afraid that if they let older people in, all the fun will dissipate.
