Sorry to trouble you guys, never been to Italy before. I am flying out to Italy in June, with a vague idea of where I want to go, but really don't want to settle on a detailed itinerary - otherwise I would be having a v. urban trip - the plan is to find some cool places along the way, hopefully be meeting people. I think this is quite a realistic way of going about it.
But how risky is it really to expect accomodation in Italy in the early summer - I don't mind being outta town a bit, as long as I have a bed to sleep in.
