It's in the 11th district:
11th Arrondissement Located on the Right Bank, its claim to fame is being the birthplace of the French Revolution, since this is where the Bastille was stormed. Once in danger of sinking into a seedy working class neighbourhood, it was reborn with the opening of the Opéra Bastille on the bicentennial of the Revolution. Now the area is host to an interesting selection of dining options, charming cafes, art galleries, and nightlife that is just a step away.
Five metro lines converge at M. République and three at M. Bastille, which means the constant traffic flow makes it easy to get to, and the cost effective lodgings worth the travel.
Has 2/2 good reviews on tripadvisor:
My fiance and I (both grad students in our 20s) truly enjoyed our stay at the Plessis hotel in June 2005. We stayed for 3 nights, then drove around Bretagne/Loire for 7 days and then ended our France vacation back at the Plessis for a night. Plessis is in a wonderful location at the Place de la Republique. There are great cafes and bakeries on the same block (Jenny's is great for alsatian food; the bakery on the corner has fantastic pain au raisins/au chocolat). There is a Monoprix down the block (perfect for picnic supplies-or anything, really). The Metro is less than a block away in either direction, making travel to and from the hotel very easy. We found the hotel owner to be quite jovial and the staff to be friendly (We speak passable French, but the staff speaks English well). The rooms are small but clean, and for the price and the location-you can't beat it--we paid less than 70 Euros/night in 2005 and were very very happy!
Stayed at this hotel while in Paris a couple of times and would highly recommend it. In a very nice location just a short walk from the metro. the staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortalbe and very clean. they are not spacious but room to walk around in and have a couple of big bags. Would gladly stay at again. Try the mussel place around the corner or the crepe place on the same block.
Sounds like you made a good choice!
