we were going to stay at the bulldog, but it's kind of expensive. 28 euros for a 10 bed dorm. Any suggestions for less expensive hostels in Amsterdam??

Well, although the "Christian" part may scare you off, the Shelter City hostel is quite good. Good food, fun staff, cheap (17E last i checked) and well situated right in the red light, but not dodgy enough to be scared I'm not christian, and it didn't matter, you go to the readings if you want to, it's not bothersome at all

Anyone else have any input on hostels in Amsterdam?
I'm having a tough time deciding. I want a semi-party hostel, but also something safe and relatively clean.

Well I would recommend the Flying Pig for a "party" but it depends what your budget is like - it's about e30 for a bed.
