My sister and I are travelling for a month throughout all of Europe and have booked some pretty fabulous deals for most of the cities we are staying in. We are going to hit Switzerland and Berlin in the middle of our trip and are figuring about the time we make it there, it would be nice to stay in a really nice hotel, something maybe with comfy beds, clean baths, and room service? Splurge a bit and make it through the rest of our trip back on budget hotels and hostels.
Does anyone know of some wonderful hotels in Berlin or Lucerne that might be what we're looking for?

If there aren't any fairs or conventions happening, Berlin is about the most reasonable place around for hotel rooms. We stayed at the Westin Grand in Berlin. I got a very discounted rate (it worked out to about 55 Euros per night) through Priceline. It's a beautiful, elegant, old-world-style hotel, perfectly located, with a spa, tiny pool, and sauna. You get bathrobes. Although we were lucky to get it by bidding on Priceline, I wouldn't recommend that now, because this hotel comes up far less frequently. This August we're going to Berlin again, and staying here: www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/mer/5341/fiche_hotel.shtmlI got a prepaid rate through the web site for 57 Euros per night. I think the location is great, and apparently there's a S-Bahn stop and supermarket very close by. There are many great deals on the Accor.com site. Sofitels are the most upscale brand that Accor has, Mercure and Novotel are 3* or 4*, and Ibis is 2*. I don't know about Lucerne, but I fear it's much harder to get a good hotel for a cheap price there. Try these sites: www.accor.comwww.bookings.orgwww.hotels.dewww.hrs.dewww.easyjethotels.comwww.ryanairhotels.com

KJO... Though this hostel doesn't have room service...and I wouldn't really consier it to be very 'posh'.... I stayed at the A&O Zoo hostel in Berlin....
Now... don't give up too soon.... It's a great place... has 24/7 reception, bike rental, and 2 bars.... one of which overlooks the train tracks.....
...the train tracks to the station LITERALLY 30 seconds walk away.... It's a great location, as you can zoom anywhere from your hostel within minutes...
Plus... the rooms are about 10 Euro....
My suggestion would be to splurge in Prague... where your money could get you a 5 star hotel for the price of a 10-bed dorm in a hostel....
Best of luck!!!!

Had a thought (or two) on the Luzern hotels part of your question: try any of the following: Hotel des Balances - www.balances.ch .Just what you're looking for, right in the middle of the Old Town and often have good deals, even for Switzerland. Ask for a river-side room - gorgeous! Hotel Luzernerhof - www.luzernerhof.ch. Located in the old town, near the Lion Monument, very pretty and very Swiss. Hotel Central - www.hotel-central-lu.ch. Located in the centre of town in the new town section, about 5min walk to the lake, 2min to train station. Hotel Anker - www.anker-luzern.ch. Located just around the corner from the train station (about 30secs) in the centre of the new town district. Nice hotel, good prices for centre of town. Hope they help. ;D
