I think I'm happy with my itinerary so now I'm working hostels. I have no desire at all so stay in party hostels, so how do these sound?
Vienna -- I don't know... I'm completely clueless for where to stay in Vienna.
Cesky Krumlov -- Krumlov House or Hostel 99
Berlin -- Citystay Mitte Hostel (cheap) or Heart of Gold Hostel (expensive)
Poznan -- The Dizzy Daisy Hostel
Prague (if needed) -- The Boathouse
------- Edit - This is for next August... but I was checking availability for prices, and a lot of these were "no available beds" for this August. Is it because it's too far ahead or are these already booked for this summer? How far in advance will I have to book?

Hi,
Re: Cesky Krumlov I would recommend the Krumlov House. Very nice and homey house, right next to the river, with own garden.
Re: Berlin I have been to the Heart of Gold Hostel, it is quite good. Don´t know Citystay but heard good things about it, too. Anyway, the Circus is the no. 1 choice in Berlin. I´d say it´s easily one of the best 5 hostels in Europe
Re: Prague The Boathouse is not bad, but a bit out of town. Sir Tobys has an excellent reputation. They have started a new house in co-operation with the Circus from Berlin, it´s called the Czech Inn. I haven´t been there, just seen pictures - it looks pretty over the top. I will go there this summer to have a look.
Re: Poznan Haven´t been there.
Re: Vienna I work for Wombat´s so you could say I´m slightly biased, but there´s really no reason why you should not stay here, even though we´re supposed to be a "party hostel". Our rooms are as nice and clean as hostel rooms get and far enough from the party so you can have a good night´s sleep. If you still insist on something else I´d recommend Hostel Ruthensteiner.
Re: "no available beds" Where did you look? Some hostels only put a small number of beds into the Hostelworld booking system (this site also works with it). Check out Gomio.com, maybe you´ll find availabilities there.
Happy travels, Klaus

August 2007 is probably too early for most hostels to load inventory also.

For availability I was checking August 2006 not 2007... just to get prices. I'm guessing for some of those places even that was a bit far ahead for online booking.
SantaKlaus - thanks much for the city-by-city suggestions! Also, I had been thinking even before you replied that I'd go with Wombat's. I think staying someplace social might be good for me.
