Has anyone stayed in accomodation in Venice they can recommend. I have read some bad reviews about the main hostel but there seem to be some ok smaller ones. What about budget hotels or even camp grounds. I don't mind staying out of Venice as long as the travel isnt too long or expensive
Thanks so much

When are you going? Is there just you or someone with you?
In winter there can be very good deals at guesthouses and hotels, but that's much less likely in summer.
I would prefer not to do so, but if you do want to stay outside Venice to save money, look at hotels in Mestre, Marghera, and the Lido.

i stayed in ostello santa fosca... it was fine. clean and cheap (17 euros). but nothing to write home about. showers were fine. bizarre office hours but once you're checked in you can come and go as you please. no breakfast and no common area but there's a grocery store about 200 m away. oh and its all single sex i beleive. it was acceptable accomodation for an expensive city.

Thanks for the help. Im travelling with my bf and trying to find places with double rooms. I should have mentioned that first. It looks like we wont be able to go until July next year so it will be summer (and expensive!) I have read some good reviews about Santa Fosca so I will have to look into it Thanks

We were just in venice 4 weeks ago! My girlfriend and I stayed at a place called "casa alloggi gerotto & calderan" www.casagerottocalderan.com/ They don't advertise their pricing on their website for some for some reason, but we paid 65 euro per night for a double room w/ private bathroom . The place is in a good location, the bathrooms super clean (we're picky when it comes to bathrooms), and the owners are very nice. good luck on your trip!

We stayed at the Casa Gerotto as well. I think it's the best deal in Venice. Super clean, great location, like Pupkus7 said. The rooms are sparce, not much in them. Don't bother getting a private bathroom, the shared bathroom is no big deal. We rarely even saw anyone in them.

Haven't gone to Venice yet, but made some early bookings.. found Hotel Bernardi, they got the cheapest rate i was able to find.. they offered us a double with breakfast (shared bathroom though) for 54E, not bad since we'll be staying just for night.

i stayed in casa alloggi gerotto & calderan as well! seems like this is a popular place... anyways we walked in without reservations (mid may) and we got a double room with private shower for 60 euros...the room was quite small but the bathroom was great...one of the newest and cleanest that we had from our month long trip!
