for paris i stayed aloha hostel. it was a great location because there were away from tourists places so it wasn't an expensive area. there was a metro nearby so you can easily hop on the subway and see all the sites. in rome i stayed in allesandro's legends. it wasn't too bad because it was close to termini station. rome's attractions aren't too far apart so you can easly walk to them from the hostel. hope this helps a bit.

In Rome I stayed at Papa Germano's hostel. I booked it on this site. Very close to Termini station where you can catch the metro to all the main sites. It has no curfew and although they don't advertise it they will keep your bags for free on your last day. they also have internet access. I stayed in a private room which worked out at 38e a night which is a bit pricey but the dorm rooms are a lot cheaper I think.

paris - i really reccommend the young and happy hostel. it's in a fantastic location in the latin quarter and it's surrounded by restaraunts, supermarkets, etc.
rome - the pop inn hostel was great, very clean, nice bathrooms. right near termini. the area is a bit seedy, being near a train station, but it's within walking distance or a short metro ride to pretty much everywhere. Though I didn't like Rome very much and I would say skip it and spend the extra days in paris!!!

How dare you - skip Rome in favour of Paris!!!!! wash your mouth out with rough soap! Each to their own opinion but Rome kicks Paris' arse any day of the week.

In Amsterdam, we stayed at the Aivengo youth hostel; pretty much your standard big-dorm style hostel. It's a nice place if you're looking for something smoke free, but still in the downtown crazy area. www.aivengoyouthhostel.com/In Paris, we stayed at Le Village Hostel. Its a good location in Montmatre, and the rooms and free breakfast are nice too. www.villagehostel.fr/tar2.htm

In Paris we stayed at Le Village, very nice, clean, close to metro, great breakfast with croissant and hot chocolat, and there's an outside patio to meet people and relax at night.
In Amsterdam it was the Flying Pig - awesome place, but noisy at night in the big dorms - bring earplugs.
In Rome we were at the Alessandro Legends - it was ok, but no lock on our door and no lockers in the room. The shower is so small, you can't even fit your close in there with you. Next time would probably check our Alessandro palace or downtown locations.
have fun!! ~michelle~

Putting that on my list now. I'm still trying to find places for Paris and London so that could be one thing I could check out!

Putting that on my list now. I'm still trying to find places for Paris and London so that could be one thing I could check out! For London: don't go to the Astor Museum Inn (noisy, two showers for a lot of rooms, small beds ... etc). My aunt's booking a room for me at a B&B for two nights that is located in Hyde Park. I just need to find accomodation for the other 2-3 nights that is preferely in Zone 1 or Zone 2. I'll probably make another post in 2007 to make sure that my choices are suitable enough or if there are better suggestions. But thanks for telling me about that place. I don't think I would have wanted to stay at any of the Astor hostels. They seem to be popular with backpackers so blah.... I'd rather not stay at noisy places!
