Does anyone have any good resources for finding host families? I am hoping to go back to Italy next summer and am just interested in staying with a family if at all possible. I'm not taking any classes, so do people just do that for the heck of it?

(its more likely that you die in a car accident or from cancer imho, most people are just as friendly as you...) Edit by Doug: Though we don't recommend it, you may try Couch Surfing. Sorry for snipping your link there, but I don't trust those open directories just yet...

Well, since we did recommend couch surfing, i guess its safe to recommend Hospitalityclub.org. It's not quite a host family but i have been using it for years. I must say that GFE and I have agreed to normally not mention or recommend it, as it really isnt anything official, so you have to understand the risks.

Kim's already got that whip out on me to get the new sections of GFE done, I don't need it used for this now!!! And Commie, not trying to censor your post, I just haven't had great experiences with those open directories yet.

Thanks for the info commie and jennifer. I actually just found Couchsurfing a couple weeks ago but didn't know if I was allowed to "advertise" by recommending it. So I'm looking into it, but what I really want to do is start my next trip to Europe with a stay of about a month or two in a small town somewhere without having to stay at a hostel for that long. In the meantime I'm trying to build contacts and find something interesting. Thanks again!
