This is similar to my last thread: "Host Families" but I was just wondering if anyone here has been successful in renting an apartment or villa in Italy somewhere. I've looked a bit online but most of what I find is the ritzy, touristy places that are really expensive. Where can I just find a plain apartment for a decent price?

What would you consider a decent price? I have looked into this a bit, and have not found any places I would consider cheap in major Italian cities. I'm not saying the apartments are wrongly priced - just too much for what I want to pay. Do take a look at this site, though, as it has a lot of information and reviews about apartment and villa rentals, particularly in Italy: www.slowtrav.com

check out www.cross-pollinate.com the people who own the Beehive in Rome created this agency to help people find bed and breakfasts and private apartments in Rome, Florence and Venice. I booked this amazing apartment there in Venice for only 60 Euros a night (Ca' Maria). Their service is really professional. You only have to make a deposit of 10 Euros a night on your credit card. Granted, I haven't stayed at the apartment yet (going in September) but so far, I've been very pleased by that company. By the way, this isn't a spam message, Dustoffmom asked me to post about my experience
