Hello all - It's been quite a while since I've been back to this site, but I remembered how helpful it was while I was planning my first trip abroad to Italy last year! I'm hoping to have the same luck this time!
I'm in the very beginning of planning my next trip with some friends - hopefully for next summer - end of June/early July to the Greek Islands, for about a week. I realize that it's PRIME time for tourists, but it's the only time we can all make it.
I've done a little research, and it seems as though Santorini is the big hot spot. It's gorgeous and has a lot to do. I'd love to stay there, of course, but I would consider other islands too if prices for accomodation are too high or if there are better and lesser known spots. My friends and I are looking for a place to stay that's pretty quiet (not a party hotel/hostel), with a nice view preferably, that's not too expensive, and is in a good location (on the coast, and fairly close to resturants/bars/cafes/etc or at least some transportation). Does such a place exist??!?!? LOL. We're not looking to do the hostel thing really, more along the lines of nice sort of budget accomodation.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Jackie

Stay at the Purple Pig on Ios, even if you don't plan on doing any partying. It is surprisingly quiet and peaceful given its proximity to the beach. The people who run it are wonderful. Make nice with them and they will take care of you. 10 euro a night. June is not their peak season so it was empty- we got private rooms instead of just renting the bed. All the hostelers were staying at the noisy campsite down the road. It is priced like a hostel but it's actually a hotel. Just watch out for the mosquitos.
