this may be a dumb question, but i just want to be sure.
Ive seen " luggage storage" offered alot when I'm looking for hostels. Does this just mean that they store your luggage behind the front counter or something? If so, is there a fee associated with the storage?

Varies depending on the hostel. Some will have an insecure storage room where you can dump your stuff but where other guests could get at it, some will have a locked room with a ticket system that may or may not be run securely, some might even have lockers. It would be pretty unusual to charge to store luggage (for a day or so) if have been or will be a paying guest there. ie it is usual for a hostel to hold your stuff on the day you arrive or the day you leave without chargingy you. Best to ask at the hostel.
