Hi all, Does anyone have a web address for The Beehive hostel in Rome? It pops up everywhere on the message boards... Also, any ideas for hostels in: - Barcelona - Madrid - Bilbao - Florence? Is Le Village in Paris all its cracked up to be? I have read some really conflicting reviews on hostelworld.com! Thanks!

the beehive, where i stayed in Rome, is at www.the-beehive.com/ it was great. but, based on reports that the kitchen there is closed, i don't think i'd recommend it. the ability to prepare some of your own food is a big way to save money on the road. making meals together is also a great way to interact with other travelers. but, elsewhere i see that you'll have a traveling companion. so, that 2nd thing might not be an issue for you. in Barcelona, i stayed at Kabul hostel. not great, but it has a good location off of Las Ramblas. other more recent travelers suggest other places. www.kabul.es/in Madrid & Bilbao, i stayed in HI's. they were ok. in Florence, Archi Rossi was ok, but had a poor reservations system. they didn't have one! it was first come, first served. Edit: just visited www.hostelarchirossi.com/ and they seem to take reservations now.

There aren't that many hostels in Rome that have kitchens, though - in fact it seems to be dying out somewhat in big cities generally. The Beehive does have a cafe that is relatively cheap, although not so cheap as doing it yourself. Plus in Rome you can buy a lot of food that does not need cooking (bread, cheese, wine, salami, etc.) so it's a factor to consider, but the good reputation of the Beehive might outweigh that concern.

Hi! I don't know any hostels in those cities, unfortunately; I do have another site to suggest you, though: www.flashbooking.com - it's got a wide range of offers, I found it interesting. Good luck with your travel planning!!!
