Hey,
I was planning on booking a room at the downtown hostel, but there are no vacanies on one of the nights, so if i choose the downtown one i'll have to reschedule my whole trip...by like a day, but still.
Should i just do the uptown one? how far away is it from the red light district and whatnot? There's a park in its backyard, which sounds cool...but i still don't know. like do they also have "happy rooms" and smoke etc?
thanks all.. ghady

Here is a recent post about the two: pretravel.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=Accommodation&action=display&n=1&thread=6666 If it means rescheduling the trip just to stay in a particular hostel, I'd seriously look at the Uptown. Many trams (1, 2, 5 just to name a few) run nearby and down to Centraal station/Red Light District in about 15mins, Leidseplein (where the locals go out) and Melkweg aren't far, Van Gogh and the Rijksmuseum are near and it's right on Vodelpark - great chill out place during the day. And there are some funky shops in the back streets nearby too. I don't know if they have happy rooms, not something I look for, but the coffee shops are not only located in the red light district, they are all over the city.
