Hey,
I can't decide! The Palace has better reviews, but the downtown one is...in downtown..which is more "central" in rome (i think...)..
what do you guys think?

ghady, I've never been to the "downtown" Hostel, but I believe it's not too far from the Palace location. I found the Palace Hostel to have a good range of facilities, including the Bar which the others don't have. I believe that guests from the other Alessandro properties are allowed to use the Bar at the Palace, and during my stay I noticed that some were using this benefit.
As far as the location is concerned, the Alessandro Palace is only about a seven minute walk from Termini, (I timed it, but of course this may vary between individuals) so getting "downtown" via Metro is very easy. When buying tickets for the Metro, try to avoid the gypsies who want to "help" you purchase your ticket (for a "donation" of course). One other point to note - AFAIK the construction of the "C" Metro line is still underway, so they were closing the other lines early to faciliate construction. That means if you plan on returning to the Hostel via public transit past about 20:00, you'll have to use alternate means.
Happy travels!!!
