We're looking for the best we can get under $30 a night this summer in the U.K. Is that possible? We'll be in: London the Cotswolds Edinburgh Glasgow. Any recommendations are helpful. We have no clue and will be in London on May 29.

$30 a night for the UK works out to be GBP15.00 (I'm guessing it's USD and not CAN$) so not a lot! But it is possible. In London it might mean having a bed in a dorm room, whilst further north things will be a little cheaper. Have you looked on the GFE Hostel recommendations on the home page, or Hostelworld for an idea? As an example, somewhere like The Generator in London (just an example, it's not the only choice) would be GBP15pp for a bed in a mixed dorm, whilst private rooms cost GBP23pp for a two-bed room. Or have a look at WillTravel's post for an alternative: pretravel.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=Accommodation&action=display&n=1&thread=6446 One thought for Edinburgh, and it depends on your timing, is that the University rents out the rooms over holiday breaks so you might get lucky there with cheap accommodation close to town. They are single rooms, however, no doubles.

I can second the Edinburgh recommendation. We stayed at the YHA Edinburgh Metro Hostel, which is university accommodation rented out for the summer. Prices range from 18 pounds to 23 pounds per night, so a bit above your range, but you do get a single room with the use of a kitchen: www.syha.org.uk/syha/web/site/NewsEventsOffers/SummerHostels2007.asp

I haven't been to the Cotswolds, but my understanding is that's not really a cheap area. Are you planning to travel around there by car? Try these sites for the UK also: www.travelstay.com/www.smoothhound.co.uk/

Aha! I knew WT would come in with the goods for accommodation! ;D
While I think of it, Glasgow is cheaper than Edinburgh (well, it was last year) in terms of central accommodation so you could even look at budget hotels (not that they'll be GBP15 a night - but maybe GBP25 a night).

If you don't want to stay in a dorm, might want to consider Travelodge (http://www.travelodge.co.uk) - they have private double/twin/family ensuite rooms for as low as 15 pounds for the entire room. You might get a good deal with a 26 pound room in some of the cities (total cost: 25-30 dollars each person). Book early though.
