Hi guys! Me and my Spain again. We've settled on
Barcelona (6) Madrid (6) Cordoba (2) Sevilla (2) Granada (2) and fly out of Malaga (2)
We would like to find double rooms in well situated hostels or pensions. We don't need or want luxury. We are on a budget but don't feel like dorm rooms.
Thing is, I've been looking around and it's so hard to choose.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks!

Jennifer, someone I know just stayed at the Hostal Marlasca in Madrid (cost will be in the 50 Euro range for a double room and no breakfast), and liked it. It's very well-situated.
I had planned to stay there in 2005 until I found a better deal elsewhere.
You have probably looked, but the Madridman.com site is really good for all of Spain, and budget accommodations.

Have a look at Oasis Hostels in Granada and Sevilla. www.oasisgranada.comwww.oasissevilla.comI stayed in dorm rooms at these hostels, but they also have double rooms. I liked them a lot, for the extra activities you can do, and the kitchens you can use. I have heared some good responses on this hostel in Madrid: www.losamigoshostel.com, but I have never needed a hostel in Madrid, as I can sleep at my friends' house.

Avoid Hotel Bastardos.

The name kind of makes me want to avoid it anyways. Who would name their hostel like that?

I think the name is a joke, based on a movie?

Jennifer, have you already booked for Spain? I was in Spain last May and went to all the places on your list except for Malaga. The Oasis hostels in Granada and Seville are quite nice, but the doubles in Granada are inside a dorm with 6 beds. You get a private room, and it's locked, but you'll still have to share bathrooms with other people. The Oasis hostel in Seville went through some renovations last year when I was there but I imagine that they would be done by now. Try to request a room in the new building instead of the old building. I think the doubles in the new building are private, but the doubles in the old building are again, in a suite with a dorm room. The oasis hostels are a great deal- try to go on the tapas tour! In Barcelona, I stayed at www.hostallevante.com last May and had a double with ensuite bathroom and balcony. It was really nice and the room was a big corner room. But I also had the displeasure of staying in a double without bathroom. The room was right behind the reception and the door was really paper thin- you could even hear the phone ring at reception! So overall, it's only worth it if you get a corner room. In Cordoba I stayed at Hotel Los Omeyas. It's right next to the Mezquita- a bit pricier than your typical budget accomodation, but a nice clean place and good location. In Madrid I stayed at www.hostal-palacios.com. Bathroom was small but my room had a tv! The hostal was close to the subway, which is a plus. Good luck!

Hey there! Yes, we've booked.
When I come back I'll come and let you know how good the places were!
