A friend and I are planning to spend a couple nights in Athens but we really can't find any good recomendations on hostels. Does anyone know of any good places?

I don't know, but sometimes if there are two of you, a budget hotel works out better. Take a look at hostelz.com - this tends to have reviews for both hostels and budget places.

If you're looking for a decent hostel/hotel, I'd recommend Hotel Neos Olympos. It's clean, bright, lots of rooms (has twins, doubles, etc) for a good price (usually $20CAD per person per night). Downside is that it's in the Larissa neighbourhood, near the train station. However it's literally minutes away from downtown Athens by metro.
Whatever you do, do not stay at Dioskouros in Plaka. They're pretty much the worst place I've ever stayed in!

I also have no knowledge on hostels in Athens but Hotel Grande Bretagne, it's right at Constitution square so you won't miss it. You can also check out luxurylink.com for luxury hotels but with rates cut in half.

I stayed at a hotel where they had an ad channel that showed the Hotel Grande Bretagne. It looks like a most fabulous hotel, but the price, even if you got 50% off, would put most travelers, especially budget travelers, into shock.
