Bad news - the hotel has horrible reviews on TripAdvisor. I would be scared to recommend it based on that. On the plus side, the reviews on Venere are somewhat better. So it depends how much you want to gamble, I guess. That said, we've stayed within a couple blocks of this place twice. We really like this neighborhood. On the hotel's street, there's a supermarket called Franprix. One block over there's an even cheaper grocery store called Ed Epicerie, and also a laundry. This is a Sephardi Jewish neigborhood, to a large extent, so you will notice places like kosher couscous restaurants, kosher sweetshops, and so forth. It's very much a neighborhood, but also quite convenient for sightseeing. It is perhaps 1.5 miles to the Eiffel Tower. Check www.mappy.com - the Pedestrian option - to get an idea of walking times. You're about a mile from the Louvre.

Pointofnoreturn stayed at the Appi Hotel - that's probably about 3/4 of a mile away and in a less nice neighborhood, but it is super-central and it's cheaper than the price you have, and has better reviews so far as the hotel goes. You might be able to find some other deals here: www.hotelscombined.com

Yes, Appihotel is located in 2e arrondissement (very close to the heart of Paris) but it's on Rue Saint-Denis. There's a couple of sex shops but it's not like prostitute central. I liked the nearby open-air market which is further down the road, which has fantastic (and fresh) food. The hotel itself was very clean, airy and almost like an IKEA showroom inside the rooms. The bathrooms are really small but it's a very good price for a budget hotel and despite the location, I'd definitely recommend it.
It's on Hostelworld as well so you might want to search "appihotel" on that site.
