I am currently staying in a temporary apartment that I have until next Saturday. I have spent a fair amount of time the last few days walking around different neighborhoods and looking for a more permanent apartment. I am also working with an agency that is helping me find a place. Yesterday, I thought I hit the jackpot. I found a great place just a few minutes walk to the center of town. It's a one bedroom with hardwood floors and high ceilings. It was newly furnished and newly renovated, and was wired for cable internet (which, I am finding, is hard to find in the areas I want to live in). So I told the agency I would take the place and paid one month's rent to them as their commission fee, thereby securing the place. I was so excited, and had a blowout last night to celebrate. This morning the agency called me and said that they were informed late last night that the owner disregarded my booking and gave the apartment to someone else at a higher price. I can't believe it. I'm crushed. I am looking at another place today that is similar, but not quite in the location I want. I will probably take it because I am getting nervous about being homeless next week. Sh*t! Well, it turns out that the other apartment wasn't that bad. In fact, it was much larger. It is farther away from the center of town, but near the a metro stop (Hradcanska) as well as near a tram hub for trams I use regularly. I am only 1 metro stop away from the center, or a short tram ride.
The furniture isn't quite as nice, but the bedroom and living room are pretty big. The neighborhood is nice, too. I think I would have loved to live here after Year 1 in Prague, but I can't really complain.
Happy again in Prague, Ray
