I apologize for the long delay between posts, but I have promised to Kim to get this journal up to date, so here is the first installment.
When I last left off, I had just started my English teaching certification course. The course was extremely well done and I learned a lot about effective teaching. Part of the course work was actual classroom teaching. I was assigned one class of 10 pre-intermediate 16-year-olds, one class off twenty 20-year old business students, two students in a company (Radio Free Europe), and one private student. Though I plan to teach primarily in businusses, this has been a great experience to see all the different types of teaching available here.
One great thing about teaching here is that it is a great opportunity to meet locals and get to know them. I have had many insightful conversations with my older students about life in Prague during the Communist era and this has been invaluable to me.
Teaching is much different than what I used to do before coming here, but I have to say I definitely enjoy it. It's much less stressful than my previous office jobs and much more social than staring at a computer all day. So I still have no complaints and still feel lucky to wake up in this beautiful city every day.
Cheers, Ray
