I just finished a long post about some recent news regarding teaching but somehow lost it because I pushed the "Post" button at a time when my internet connection decided to stop working. AAARGHHHH!
Anyways, to make a long story short, the school I work for is laying off half their teachers because they lost a big chunk of business right before the holidays. All teachers hired in September were being laid off at the end of January. Including me. Merry Christmas.
I actually didn't mind too much because I have the worst schedule on the planet. I commute A TON in between classes and I spend almost as much time commuting as teaching. Besides, I worked at another place over the summer and I am pretty sure I could go back. Part of me wishes I never left, but that story was lost into the ether a few minutes ago.
So I am going to San Sebastian tomorrow. I got a deal on EasyJet that I couldn't turn down. It's about 65 degrees Fahrenheit there now, which seems like blistering heat compared to what the weather is like here. Not to mention that it's one of my favorite places and I can't wait to go back.
The twist to this story is that my school asked me last week if I would like to stay on part-time. It turns out some of my students called and told the school that they still really wanted to have me as their teacher. So now I am still employed, with a much more agreeable schedule.
And in about twelve hours I am off for Spain!
Hasta luego, Ray
