Pitlochry con't...
Saw a great old castle ruin the next day...sorry, I don't have my notebook with me just now so can not be sure of my spelling, but is Caernafron if memory serves correctly. A huge place, still moated and out in the middle of nowhere! Really stunning views off toward the firth and a great 'nature' walk around the grounds and back to where the remains of the old castle (1200) are being excavated. At this spot I couldn't get a return bus until 1700 and was sitting there waiting. The castle closed at 1600. At about half past here comes the
visitor center fellow on his way home for the day, and turns out he is the 'district' manager for all the Nat'l Scottish Tourist Board employees for the entire region. he gave me a ride back to twon and filled me in on what is open, great to see, what best to forgo....another great chat.
I am finding so far a world of difference between Scotland and England, people wise. (No offense intended to any English out there). But here, just going in to buy the paper in the morning will result in a 10 minute chat if you merely say hello. (I found this there, and 9 days later still find it true no
matter where in Scotland I have been....and I have been around!) The Scots seem much friendlier, more open, and so anxious to tell you of their town or village or area. The English were polite and such, but harder to engage in any sort of conversation at all...they all seemed always in a terrible hurry...much like Americans.
On a personal note here......how hard to imagine what is happening just now in the middle east. As I have mentioned to some of your privately already, i am seeing the world through a new light so to speak. Riding around a great deal of
the time I find myself having much more time to really read the papers and digest the news. Seeing things from here, and getting the news from here brings into very stark perspective just how utterly biased and liberal American media
is. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that what I am gaining in information as to the situation there and what is happening is world's different from what you are reading or hearing there.
But i digress....it looks quite fearful there doesn't
it? I just do not see a resolution to this, at least not one that is in any way 'peaceful'. But....Arafat must be afraid to go take a shit these days, knowing that Isreali guns are trained on him it seems where ever he is. Yikes!
Gotta run.....my belly is rumbling and it is time to eat.
Next time....the train trip of a lifetime! The West highland Way!
merry christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!
