So I thought I would post this information here in case there were any people heading out to or in Paris in the month of May! May is a month with a lot of holidays - not only in Paris but in many parts of Europe. As a result you should be aware that many places in the city will operate on a limited schedule - and this includes museums. Banks, department stores, shops, and a lot of museums will also be closed. Often grocery stores are closed too so do plan ahead. The holidays are on: Saturday, May 1: Labor Day Saturday, May 8: WWII Armistice Thursday, May 20: Ascension Day Monday, May 31: Whit Monday You should also take into account that the French have this lovely of "fairing le pont." Meaning that whenever possible they make a bridge and give themselves a four day long weekend. On May 21st for example many institutions are likely to also give themselves that day off. You should also take these holidays into consideration when planning for trips outside of Paris. Train bookings should for the most part be made in advance. At the following link you can find a list of all openings and closings during May holidays (at least for museums and monuments): www.paris-touristoffice.com/va2/ouverture_musees/0405.htmlCheers!

A further update on the opening of the Orangerie - this was a question asked originally by Cil under the questions for CT page.
Current word has it that the Orangerie is sent to re-open in late 2004. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt considering that the work being done is more akin to a complete overhaul than a renovation.
