reports of bird flu deaths in Turkey are frighteningly close to Europe. but, they are in Eastern Turkey. deaths, especially child deaths are very sad. but, if this H5N1 virus keeps up it's spread, Europe might be in danger. lets hope there's no person-person transmissions. - d

David, What sort of coverage is this getting stateside? Here it is THE BIG STORY leading every newscast I have seen, be it CNN, BBC, SkyNews or Euronews. They are all giving this huge coverage, even now several days later.

obviously, the coverage isn't as strong here. the networks and Jim Lehrer gave it some coverage when the story first broke, less so now.

Interesting....in the little coffee bar right outside Pompeii entry I noticed they had a good size poster up next to the bar about Avian Flu. First time I've seen anything like that. Obviously could not read it, but from the pics I gathered it was giving symptoms and things to do to avoid getting it.

Bird flu was confirmed in a dead swan in Scotland recently. Bird flu is getting LOADS of coverage in the UK. In one hand they tell everyone not to panic and it hasn't mutated to person to person transmition then on another hand they never have it off the TV telling us to prepare for thousands of deaths With migrating birds there is no way of knowing how wide spread bird flu is in Europe but luckily there hasn't been any more reports about the deaths of people.
