news reports are now saying that Montenegro's independence plebiscite has succeeded in getting the 55% support needed for EU recognition.
i wonder what this will do to tourist wishing to travel there? i hope there isn't any conflict which would cause trouble. Montenegro already uses € cash as its de facto currency, they'd been using German D-Mark for years.
all the reports i've read & pictures i've seen make Montenegro look like a fabulous place to visit!

They're going to confirm it in 30 minutes, but it's definitely looking that way. To be honest, the two countries have been drifting apart for so long it's definitely a positive thing. I really doubt there'll be a conflict either - a lot of these countries are now looking towards the future expansion of the EU, so they are tending to play by the rules a bit more than in the past.
Whether it'll be beneficial for tourism or not, I've no idea. Certainly the coastline looks appealing though, so it may see a resurgence in a similar way to Croatia. That said, I wouldn't hold my breath - people still associate this area of the World with the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s and it'll take a long time for this to change.

there's an article at www.NYTimes.com travel section, under the heading Frugal Traveler, titled "Savings by the Sea (for Now) in Montenegro." it might be of interest to some here.
