Winter finally found the Alps! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6228545.stmAlthough the avalanches aren't good news. My friends in the Tirol tell me it was a green Christmas but it's looking better now, even if it's a little "wet". Herrbert, apparently Kaprun has some of the best conditions at the moment!

In Kaprun, you can ski on a really high altitude on the glacier. It is also the place where the Austrian Ski-Team does their summer training. I know the cable-car to the Kitzsteinhorn (I think they never used the trains, after the accident a couple of years ago), go to about 3000m. I've been there trowing snowballs in August, when it was really hot in the valley.
P.S. today in Holland 16 degrees Celsius !!! It is supposed to be winter, but this is much better ...

No snow here in Ottawa still.... It's all melted now (we had a minor flurry of snow this morning). Tomorrow is -8C but temps will go up to 5C by end of week.
Looks like things are not going so well in terms of planning for Winterlude, Canada's biggest winter festival....
Too bad climate change is putting a snag into traveller's plans for ski destinations but at least the Alps have snow now.... for the time being LOL.

yes things can't be looking so hot for quebec winter carnival either! damp weather has affected both events the past couple of years... sculptures were melting in quebec last year...
on the one hand i despise winter driving so this works for me... but the environmental scientist in me knows its really bad.
