And I was just recommending the island to someone the other day: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6401701.stmI was in Sicily in Jauary 2002 and was meant to be on the ferry to Stromboli when it errupted again (after the Dec erruption, and Etna was gurgling too) and a side of the island slid into the sea. I ended up spending the night in a hotel in Milazzo with those people who had been evacuated from the island, dancing their cares away to the Tarantella (Conco d'Ora)! Some had lost their houses, but they didn't let it bother them - "the volcano makes the rules" I was told!

I've seen the story of the Stromboli eruption several times on the news today. It looks quite serious, but hopefully the mountain will "calm down" fairly soon.

Yes, "the volcano makes the rules"..people who live just a step from a volcano knows that has to accept its rules, and it's just incredible how they manage to do it..! by the way, I was thinking of going there in may, after years of longing and thinking about it - I've been there 13 years ago.. i'll wait some more..
