whew, that was a close one. i'll be glad to hear what caused the problem so it can be fixed. this incident could have been disastrous!

I heared a Dutch passenger on the news a few hours ago, and he said he didn't noticed much of it, until he got out of the plane, and saw that they had landed in the grass, he said the wing was damaged, and the landing gear was gone (although I wonder if that is correct, because I don't know how you can loose the landing gear.)

He must have been sleeping when the plane touched down, as I understand the landing gear collapsed. Also, having to exit the plane via the inflatable emergency slides would have been a good indicator that it wasn't a normal landing. This incident is surprising as BA usually has an excellent safety record, and the 777 has a good reputation also. The fact there were no injuries is possibly due to the skill of the flight crew? Yes, it will certainly be interesting to hear what caused this!

herrbert, thanks for the clarification in your last Post. It really does sound like the flight crew did an incredible job of controlling the aircraft and minimizing problems for the passengers.
