Belgrade today is rocked by protests against US & EU recognition of an independent Kosova. US' embassy has been struck by violent demonstrators.
this is not a good time to visit Serbia.

David, I agree, not a good time to be in that part of Europe (especially for people from western countries). However, Croatia and parts of Bosnia are probably still safe for travellers.
Based on news reports I heard today on BBC, the US Embassy had been abandonded prior to the protests? Part of it was apparently set on fire, and one individual trapped inside was found deceased when the fire was extinguished.
I listened to a somewhat lengthy analysis on another news channel regarding the "viability" of the new state, and there is some uncertainty about that. I guess we'll have to see how this plays-out?
