I'm relieved that it seems there won't be a transport strike when we are there. From what I read elsewhere, Deutsche Bahn had planned for a Monday strike, so had set up an emergency timetable, and can't change it at this point. But at least subsequent days won't be affected.

Hopefully this will be settled permanently in the next week or so. It's encouraging that the train employees have reached a settlement with Deutsche Bahn.
Due to my present employment situation, I'm now working on a very hastily planned spring European adventure, which will take place quickly if everything works out (just waiting to hear from the tour group to determine if they have any spots left). Part of this involves rail travel in Germany and Austria, so I wasn't too pleased to hear about the labour problems with DB. Hopefully TrenItalia won't follow suit!
Cheers!

Hopefully TrenItalia won't follow suit! Ha! Good point! Or the SNCF for that matter! Glad you won't be affected in your travels WT - when are you going again? And glad your friend made it to Dallas, David. Obviously got out before it got too affected.

We're leaving Vancouver this Friday evening (March 14), and flying to Cologne on March 15. The itinerary is like this: 1 night Cologne Train to Amsterdam Amsterdam 4 nights - I am planning a daytrip to Antwerp. I know it will be a long daytrip, but it works out best. I'm also hoping to visit den Haag and Utrecht. Train to Paris Paris 3 nights over Easter weekend - I think I will make a daytrip to Provins. My daughter is probably going to do a daytrip to Versailles. Train to Frankfurt 1 night Frankfurt (no time to go to Mainz, alas)
Fly home

We're arriving at Frankfurt Main at 11 PM by ICE, so doing any sort of switch seems a bit much. I might have time to see one museum in Frankfurt in the morning. Our flight out leaves at 2 PM.

I'm also hoping to visit den Haag and Utrecht. If you need to choose between them, then choose Den Haag (The Hague). Have a safe and good trip.

Thanks for the tip. I do want to see some things in Amsterdam I still haven't seen yet, so it might come down to that choice.

So close to your departure date WT, woo hoo!
Just a thing about Paris at Easter - if you're there on Good Friday then you will be able to go to Notre Dame to see the Passion of the Christ that are taken out to display only on Good Friday. The line will be longish, but there are always two lines, one for the relics and one for the cathedral so hop in the inside line (you read French so you'll see the sign indicating which line is for what) as most people join the outside line and that only skims the chapels inside and not the actual relics.
Have a great trip!
