There is a new investigation underway to discover why and when it was built: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7322753.stmWill be interesting to see what they come up with and how it interacts with visitors to the site over the life of the dig.

MTH, there was an article in the local paper this morning on that very subject. According to the article, the researchers had to obtain all kinds of approvals from the government! It also mentioned that they also spoke to the Druids to get permission. I didn't know there were still Druids about???
As you say, it will be interesting to see what they find?
Cheers!

We are all Druids in the UK. We bark at the moon and hug trees :-) The Druids are recognised as a religious group. Seriously the druid groups have a big influence over what goes on at Stonehenge. I think they are granted special access on significant days because it is used in some of their rituals.
On a separate note not only druids in the uk but Jedi Knights are recognised as a religion. When we had our census people found out that if a certain number of people stated their religion as whatever it would become recognised so there was a campaign to get people to put they were Jedi Knights.
