Hi there,
Friends of ours have suggested the Henri IV (25 Place Dauphine) in Ille de la Cite (near pont neuf?), but they haven't been in some time. I'm having trouble finding it on the web....do you know of this place? Is it still in operation? It was suggested as a nice, central location, with an easy walk to many attractions. Is this true or would we be better situated somewhere else? We plan on being in Paris 4-5 days.
Thanks for any help you can give! Robin

This is one of the places in Paris that people either seem to love or hate. I won't lie to you - the location is incredible and the prices are fantastic! You're smack in the middle of everything and in the most expensive residential neighbourhood in the entire city. I myself have never stayed there so I can't comment. I will say however that reviews vary A LOT. Some people say it's charming and others think it's a rat hole. The best I can do is refer you to monique's (a member) opinion of the place. This is what she wrote after her return: Paris, France Hôtel Henri IV 25, pl. Dauphine 01 43 54 44 53 Double room with sink and shared toilet €26, use of shower between 8:00-19:00 only, €3 per shower. Bare-bones, accommodations with tons of stairs and loud plumbing located on the Île de la Cité. The toilets are not on each floor, and you have to go out onto an outdoor landing to get to them, which was creepy at night and would have been worse if the weather was cold. At least the sheets on the bed smelled clean, or else I would never have stayed the night! I left the next morning without using the shower or taking breakfast, so I can’t comment. I had trouble sleeping because people were bathing themselves using the sinks in their rooms. Waste water from other rooms flooding into my sink all night was enough to get me to leave. The room needed some serious attention, but you get what you pay for. This place could be great with a little work. Normally I can exchange a little cleanliness and convenience for character; I'd rather stay in an institutional-like hostel dorm than this place. Overall Value: C because of the price; most people I know would give it an F. If you are on a tight budget and it’s a matter of staying in Paris or not, then this place can work; maybe the lower level rooms are nicer (at least you won’t have to travel down 6 flights of stairs to get the shower key, then go back up the 6 flights, then back down the 6 flights to return it). Otherwise spend a little more money somewhere else. I don't know. I suppose it depends on how adventurous you are and if you are willing to gamble! I myself would probably stay away though. Cheers!
