So I've decided to start listing some of my suggestions. You'll have to bear with me because I have bills and business cards kicking around. I'll post things as I find them but right now I have a couple of suggestions:
1) Le Plomb du Cantal
3 rue de la Gaité<br>75014 Paris
Tel: 01 43 35 16 92
Open every day
This place is really good! It's not incredibly cheap but it is worth a splurge and the plates are MASSIVE. Even as a North American I was shocked! We went here with some classmates and our prof. after our last exam in Paris. She thought we shouldn't leave the city without having had a taste of really excellent French food. The food there is from the Auvergne region of France. Admittedly it's the kind of place you should avoid if you are a vegetarian.
Main dishes are about 15 Euros but to be honest it's worth the splurge.
I will warn you that it is located in front of a theatre so you should be there before 8 or else it really fills up and you might have to wait a while.
It's also really well located right near the Edgar Quintet and Montparnasse metro stations.
The house specialty is Duck Confit and truffade - this fantastic potato, cream, and cheese dish. The stuff is fantastic!
2) Le Luco
107 Boulevard St. Michel
75005 Paris
RER Luxembourg 01 43 26 78 38

This is a brasserie right near where I used to live. Admittedly it's not high on atmosphere but I think it's well situated and the food is actually quite good and not that expensive. They make really good roasted chicken and fries and croque monsieurs and madames. Their salads and creme brulee are also excellent. The reason I really liked this place is that it had a non-smoking section which very few places actually do. Just don't go there for breakfast - that's no good.
EDIT: You can easily eat for under 10 Euros here.
I'll add more later. Cheers!
