I've heard that airport xray scanner things ruin your film with their magnetics. Is that true? Does the same go for Cedit/Debit cards and things of that sort? What about video camera film? Will these scanners and things erase or ruin videotape? Thanks for responding!

I went digital on my last trip, so wasn't taking much notice... but from my travels in 1999, I remember being told that it only effected 800 speed film. Our video tapes went through scanners and had no harm on them.
Hope that helps.

Currently the scanners for carry on baggage is safe for both exposed and unexposed film that is 1200 speed or less. It is the checked baggage scanners that are the problem. Do not check any of your film. Take it in your carry on and it will be fine. There is a full discussion on this in another thread in this forum as well as the TSA site itself.
