I currently use a rather bulky Canon camera bag at the moment, and I've never brought my film camera along on a trip to Europe. I will be backpacking during the summer, though.
My question: what are some good, lightweight, camera bags that protect from x-ray damage to film and keep film cool enough to not need a cooler while travelling?
Thanks!

In Europe unless you're using some incredibly fast film (higher than 800iso) then X rays won't damage the film (that's in Western Europe btw- I still wouldn't trust Eastern Europe....). Also, if in doubt pack it in your carry on luggage. For camera cases I swear by lowepro ones- check out www.lowepro.com. I have one for my digital camera. They aren't cheap but they are pretty good. BTW there's no way you'll need a cooled case, unless you're leaving the bag around in direct sunlight for a long period of time.

the only thing about overheating I'm worried about is if I'm tramping around all day and I'm carrying my camerabag. Another issue with the camerabag is thieves. I've been recommended not to let anyone see that I'm carrying a camera bag, so I sometimes have the tendency to just shove it into my messenger bag, but then there's the cleanliness and safety issue with the camera.

I agree that heat is not an issue. If you want to somewhat 'hide' your camera why not look into one of the camera backpacks? I have one and love it....stores my Nikon and 3 lenses and also has room for guidebooks, water, etc. Very handy for travel as it combines 2 items into one.
