Hello all,
We´re in Madrid, having a good time. Unfortunately,
in our last stop, San Sebastian, I got ill, but I´m
finally feeling better. At least we got to experience
a Spanish medical clinic and pharmacy! We´ve had to
curtail our sightseeing and night time activities, but
it´s still a great place to be.
The best part about Spain is the cost - it´s cheap to
be here. The weather´s not too shabby right now
either. We´ve taken to having siestas and sleeping in
quite late too.
In San Sebastian, Rob was able to see the town and the beach. We also went by Bilbao Guggenheim, a must do on every architect´s list. The funniest part was that the exhibit on display was one we saw in Los Angeles, so we got to see the same pieces of art again.
Madrid´s great - not as crazy as I thought it would
be. My big moment came when we saw there was a
Vermeer exhibit at the Prado. You can see the updates
on the website. We´re enjoying the food too, we love
paella! But we´re not crazy about churros and
chocolate.
Just a side note - the pope was in Madrid this past
weekend. They call him "el papa" here, which I got a
big kick out of, because I call my father papa. We
also ran into the infamous Rick Steves, who writes
travel guides and has a travel show on PBS, filming
his show in the Plaza Major. LIke the dorks we are,
we couldn´t resist saying hi and taking a picture.
Quite an amusing moment.
Hope all is well with everyone, please write us, we
really do enjoy hearing from everyone. And visit the

Mama´s done a kickass job on the website (Rob´s
words). Thanks Mama!
Next Stop - Barcelona!
Love, Mari and Rob
