This subject maybe already disscused that I wasnt paying attention to my own eyes and brain.. (If yes, sorry)
Does anyone brought tripod with you for your europe trip?? Is it worth to bring it? or bring a table tripod and put it on a high attitude (in order to make up the difference)?
I have a very light tripod. I love take night pictures, but somehow very shy/akward to use a tripod infront of so many people (stares at you). Any way to "overcome" this fear?
Thanks!

I know what you mean. I hate dragging a tripod around, people look at you like they've never seen one before - or wonder what you're doing. Isn't it obvious? You may want to consider bringing a beanbag (which can steady the camera for you) and using just a ledge or railing to sit it on. Easy to carry and not so obvious.

They come in a variety of sizes..which affects the weight of course. Extremely handy to have! Check out any online phot store, i.e. B&H Photo for availability and pricing.
If this link works.....look here:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=61591&is=REG

Edited by Kim - I'm adding in the direct link as the other link is too long and makes the boards scroll for smaller screens.

What about a monopod? Have any of you used one successfully instead of a tripod when travelling?

i brought a small table top tripod that fit right in my slingbag. i did see people using full size packaway tripods that were really cool. they break down really small.

I have a full-size travel tripod that nicely fits into luggage but you have to be careful with those... many are somewhat precarious/flimsy. Mine worked pretty good in Hawaii, but I'm not sure I'll take it to Europe. (For starters, I had a suitcase in Hawaii instead of a backpack).

I have often resorted to balancing my camera on a mixture of things to hand - including the lens caps and cases. A bean bag sounds like a good idea but will limit you to locations with something to rest it on unless you are happy shooting from floor level.
If you are keen and know you will want to take a lot of images then bringing a tripod will give you the greatest flexibility. Anyway - you don't have to carry it around with you all the time!
The one I routinely use at the moment is a Manfrotto 055, which is hardly light, but I needed something solid for the panoramic shots I was doing. But when not doing this I tend to resort to the balancing act. I would love to get a carbon fibre tripod but the cost...
Whatever you do, I hope you have a good trip and the night shots come out well
