Is it possible to have your film developed on the road but only to the negative stage? With no actual prints done? I'd like to have mine done so I can mail them home.
Anyone ever done this? Any idea of cost?

You know what I would do if you are going to do this? Get the prints and negatives and mail them separately. That way, if one or the other gets lost - at least you still have something.

TIP:
I asked this at Astral Photo in my local place, it might be different at you place. (Double check)
If you by chance get the negative and sent it home. I will suggest you to NO to have the negative cut into strips. Put it in the plastic roll thing that you get when you open a new roll to take pic. For sure, it will take more space, but it is good if you want it to be scan into a CD. If you have it cut into many strips, it will much more expensive if you decide to have those negative to be scan into CD.
Also by being able to stuff into the plastic roll thing, you can put a small note what is in that negative (or sticker outside).

Is it possible to have your film developed on the road but only to the negative stage? I doubt you'll save money doing this. If anything they'll charge you more as it's a departure from the norm. Instead you could just find the cheapest development deal around (e.g. 24 6x4" shots) and mail the photos and the negatives home separately.

Thanks for the advice guys I wonder what this would cost me. Between the processing and the mailing. Might be just worth my while to keep the undeveloped roles with me.

I'm wondering the same thing about costs Libby! I would really like to send pic's back home as I go, like maybe on a wkly basis. I'm going to get my digitals burned to CD and then try to upload them from a cafe using webshots...hopefully most cafes will let me do this (put a cd in their computer). If not, I was planning on mailing the cd's home, but since I'll be gone a little over 3mos. it may get costly...so I may have to hold on to them and wait til I get home. We'll see what happens!

I've had three rolls developed here in Edinburgh at a cost of £3.99/roll for overnight developing. That also includes a free roll of 200 film for each one processed. That bonus balanced out the cost of having them done here. I was a bit worried about the film I bought since hand inspection had been refused on my film in Halifax AND Heathrow and they had been scanned twice. A few pictures have unexplained lines, but that's it. They don't look all that bad if you ask me I'll try to have a few more developed before I head home.

Aren't you worried about having problems carrying them around?
