Hi there,
Ok.... I'm I just going to find an electrical outlet close to my bed in a 8 bed dorm room, & plug my video camera/AA batt charger (digital camera) to charge for the night when I'm sleeping? Can sleep in peace?? Is it going to be there next morning? or everybody will be using all the outlets & I will get stuck with not beeing able to recharge my cameras? Has anybody gone though this before? Help please... Ricachon78

In my experience, there's often at least one outlet in the Dorm rooms and sometimes more than one. It only takes a few hours to charge most of the newer batteries, so you should be able to work out some kind of schedule with your roomates. If you're in the U.K., some of the outlets have to be switched on before they operate.
I couldn't tell where you're from as you haven't registered on the Board, so don't have a profile. My point is that you'll have to take plug adapters which are specific for the countries you'll be in (UK is different than mainland Europe) and MORE importantly make sure that your Chargers are capable of use on the 220 VAC / 50 Hz. electrical system.
If you're really worried about theft, the front desk staff at most Hostels will charge items for you in the office. If there's no outlet in the room, I just look for one somewhere close (in the hallway or the common room) and leave the door open so I can monitor things. I often do the charging when I'm getting ready in the morning and can keep the charger within sight.
Hope this has been of some help. Happy travels!!!
