I discovered some new photos of Italy (and other areas) while surfing around the net tonight, and thought perhaps others on the Board might also like to see them. To view these, go to www.shaynes.com and then "Galleries" and "Foreign Lands". There's one section on Northern Italy and one on Southern Italy. I believe these were "tweaked" with Photoshop in some cases, and are some of the best travel photos I've ever seen! This would seem to be an excellent example of the fact that it takes more than just the technical capabilities of an expensive Digital Camera to produce a top quality photo -- the skill of the Photographer has a lot to do with it also. With digital these skills have to include the technical ability to manipulate these in Photoshop as well. I wouldn't have a clue on how to combine images to achieve a particular effect, as he has done? In looking through the galleries, the thought occurred to me that some of those prints would look outstanding on my living room wall! Cheers!!!

Thanks for posting Eagle. I am ever in the mood to see great photos and see if there are any techniques there I can try to adopt. Off to look at these.

They are good, nice to see that info on the gear used is given too! Would love to have a digital SLR, but still find the cost of a good one prohibative, so still using a Minolta Dimage A1 for all my stuff.

It all depends on which digital SLR you get. I have the Nikon D70 and the kit (lens and body) was about $1700.

Jennifer, as Kim mentioned, there's a bit of a variety of prices with digital SLR's. According to the latest London Drugs flyer (which starts on Tuesday), the Nikon D70S is still about $1600.00 or so (it's a popular and well rated model, so that's not surprising). The Canon Digital Rebel (350D?) was priced at $959.00 for the sale. One other thing you might consider would be the more featured packed digitals that are considerably more versatile than the "normal" point & shoot, but less cost than an SLR. A couple of models which come to mind would be the new Canon S2-IS (which will be introduced on 28 May I believe) or the Panasonic DMC-FZ5. These typically have a 10-12x image stablized optical zoom, perhaps 5 MP sensor and more features than the average Camera. I'd have to check the individual spec's, but some of these may be capable of external flash or other "high end" features (probably not interchangeable lenses though). These are often priced in the $600-$700 range. It was another option to consider, so thought I'd mention it. If you ever want to check the ratings of any Cameras you're thinking of buying, have a look at the Reviews & Forums at www.dpreview.com as it's the best and most reliable site I've seen (I think it's based in the U.K.?). Glad you enjoyed the photos. Cheers!!!
