me again! I am having a real trouble getting to choose! Help! Here's the thing: I have a backpack already, it doesn't have a detachable daypack, so I must buy one!
I have a bag that has only one strap but it's diagonal around your stomach and it's like a backpack only one strap. I don't know if you get the picture of what I mean, but hey.
Then I saw a waistbag that has enough room for my camera, toilet paper and other essentials, although it has no water bottle holder. This bag is made sort of like a K-Way where you open up the top pocket and it becomes a backpack. It is made out of K-way sort of material, which isn't so quality-ish, but it's good for when you lug around your big backpack, you put this one around your waist, and in the day you use the backpack. This pack is sold 37$ canadian.
I also saw, of way greater quality, but I don't like the format as well, a waistpack, made in the shape a normal waistpack, bigger that the other one, with 2 water bottle holders. It is a good size, although not very fashionable when you're walking with this, but who cares, huh? It also has confortable straps you can add on and off to use it as a backpack. It fits real well when you put it as a backpack because you use the waist straps also, just like with big backpacks. This one is 35$ canadian.
The thing is, I just don't know what to do. Is a day backpack like these 2 safe? Is the pack I already have ok? I a waist pack better? Helpppppppppppppppppp! xoxo Jen

I wouldn't bring the pack with one strap. I bought one that I was going to bring to Asia and ended up not even bringing it cause using it, I found it's seriously hard on your shoulder as it puts all the weight on one side.
I'm not a big fan of waist bags but have never really used one so I can't comment.
A daypack is usually the best idea as you can lock the zippers and the weight is evenly distributed. Plus, you have room for your lunch, camera, water, guidebook etc. that you wouldn't have in a waistpack.

See, I'm all for the daybackpack thing too! I would actually bring a backpack, maybe smaller than the one I use for College, but still a backpack. The only thing stopping me is that I have heard so many people say not to transport 2 backpacks, one front one back. So i figure a transformable waist pack was better. Then I figure, well, just empty the daypack into the big backpack and carry only one, but then all my valuables, like camera and all are in my big backpack....not to my liking... what should I do? xoxo Jen

FWIW.....my big pack did have a detachable daypack and I many times took it off and wore it to the front if I had to go any distance. Looks dorky as hell, but really helped distribute the weight some and actually was more comfortable that way. As for the waist pack.....well, nothing, absolutely nothing screams tourist (usually American tourist) like a 'fanny pack'. ;D
Except for wearing your money belt on the OUTSIDE of your pants! BWAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Hi!Me again! Now I am having the greatest dilemna of my trip, ridiculous one you'll say, but my birthday is in 6 days, which leaves me about 5 to decide which pack I want to buy as my mom is on my heals about her actually having a gift to give me at my birthday, and guess what? She's buying a pack for me!
So, possibilities: I bring my backpack I already have, and either wear it in the front while I have my big backpack on my back, or crumple it up and put it in the one I have on my back, but then where is my camera and things? at reach for people who want to steel something!
or
I bring my backpack I already have, plus a waist pack, so I just fold my backpack into my bigbackpack and wear my waistpack for my camera and all! But then I'm carrying 3 bags!
Or,
I bring my big backpack with a waist pack, and then I have the problem of not having a place to store my lunch and things I buy on the road!
Oh Gosh! Please help me!
xoxo Jen

Jen, You are making yourself, and all of us , crazy over this! What is most comfortable to you? The normal configuration is big backpack and a smaller day pack.....but if you like a waist pack, then use that instead. If your day pack will fit in your big pack when you don't need it, bring it. Personally I don't like a waist pack...but that is just me. It is your stuff, you have to carry it and you have to decide what feels best to you. g

no hard feelings ever......nor did I mean to imply such. Just that at the end of the day only you can decide what works best for you.
Girl, you are waaaaayyyy overthinking this whole thing and multi-stressing things that you need not. ;D Try to relax just a little and read some in your guidebook instead of worrying about day pack vs waist pack! Put them on, see what feels best and go with that.
