Hi Everybody!!
Well, since we last wrote we've been to Siena, Assisi, the Amalfi Coast, and now Rome. Phew! Rome is very hot and humid. Luckily, we're staying near Vatican City so the weather seems to be a bit cooler than the rest of the city - courtesy of the pope?
Siena was great - great food, great town. We stayed in a hotel run by nuns, and Rob said that they kept glaring at him. other than that, it was a perfectly fine place to stay. We had lots of fun people watching.
Assisi was much prettier than we thought it would be, and less tourists. We got bored though and took a quick day trip to Rome. It was fun running around the city, courtesy of a really stupid but really addicting book called Angels and Demons... you can read about it on the website in a week or so.
Amalfi Coast was wonderful, beaches, beaches and beaches. We pretty much swam the entire time we were there. I got a nice tan and Rob got... well, a red neck!
Rome is a great town, but I'd love to come back when it's cooler. Since so many sites are outside and Romans have never heard of air conditioning (except for Mc Donalds! I hate to say that we've been frequenting them quite regularly, only to cool down!), we've been looking forward to moving on. One of the more amusing things that happened to us was that we went to see Matrix reloaded again (there's not much to do when it's hot) and two nuns sat next to us to see the movie! Not what I'd think was approved Vatican viewing, but they were giggling and laughing more than anyone else in the theater.
We both miss a few things back at home. Besides family and friends (and cats!) I miss libraries and the aforementioned air conditioning. Rob misses his big refrigerator (filled with ice tea and diet coke with lemon).
This is our last day in Italy, and I'm glad we spent so long here (about 4 weeks). It truly is a wonderful place to visit. But, I must admit, one of the things we'll miss the most is... gelato! Check out Mama's fabulous gelato page on our website!!

Next, greetings from Belgium! We fly tomorrow!
Love, Mari and Rob
